Ring, open end or combination
Open end wrenches slide onto a fastener from the side, which is the only option on a brake union or anything already threaded onto a line. The trade-off is that they load two flats and can spread. Ring wrenches enclose the head completely and load six or twelve points, so they hold on fasteners an open end would round. Combination wrenches such as the 42 series carry one of each on the same tool, which is why they end up being the set most workshops actually reach for. Where clearance is the problem, the 42SLIM has thinner open ends and the 42LMP runs long for reach; the 45 heavy series goes the other way for high-load work.
Working in the swing you've got
A bi-hex ring resets every 30 degrees rather than 60, which is often the difference between turning a fastener and not. Below that, ratcheting spanners take over — the 142 reversible ratcheting combination wrenches, the 141 straight pattern, the 195 ratcheting flat bi-hex ring, and the 142SN with a swivel end for fasteners sitting off-axis. The 120 ratchet-opening wrench works on unions you can't thread a ring over. And the T-handle wrench is the tool Beta is best known for: the 952 series pivots at the head so you can start a fastener on an angle and finish it square, with the 949 deep sockets and 950 hex versions covering recessed work.
Adjustable, flare nut and the specials
The 110 and 111 adjustable wrenches are machined with a scale on the jaw so you can set an opening to a size rather than eyeball it, and the geometry holds it under load. The 94 flare nut wrenches grip five flats on soft brake and fuel fittings. Beyond that the range covers half-moon and offset ring wrenches for stacked fasteners, 58 and 78 slogging wrenches for heavy assembly, hook and pin wrenches for ring nuts, 93-series wrenches for scaffolding bolts, and 930-series tubular sockets. The 123Q quick-release adaptors bridge the ratcheting wrenches into your existing 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive sockets.
Sets, kits or one at a time
Wrenches are sold individually, in blister packs and in boxed spanner sets, and they're built into complete tool box sets and worker tool kits.
